Want your kids cycling safely on the road…..bikeability-logo

What is Bikeability?

Bikeability is ‘cycling proficiency’ for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.

There are three Bikeability levels, with each level designed to help improve their cycling skills, no matter what they know already. Levels 1, 2 and 3 take trainees on a journey from the basics of balance and control, all the way through to planning and making a journey by themselves on busier roads.

To start Bikeability children must be able to ride a bike without support.

Level 1 will help new riders to control their bike before they move on to developing on-road skills at Level 2.

Level 2 is tackled by children in Years 5 or 6 (aged 9+), before they leave primary school.

Level 3 teaches trainees how to ride in different and more challenging traffic situations, and is usually completed by children of secondary school age.
To register participants must have already successfully completed Level 2.

Kids will enjoy learning the skills and developing the confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.

The courses start on the dates below, click on a course for more information and to book online.

Book early as places fill fast!

Audentior Award

We are delighted to announce we were awarded The Mayor’s Sporting Achievement Group Award on Friday evening at the Audentior Awards! ????

Thank you Watford, our customers and all those we already support. Please help us spread the word as we’re still being told we’re a well kept secret and we’d love to make a difference to more people’s lives.

As a group award, this congratulates and recognises our whole team; staff,  volunteers and supporters who give so much time, energy & passion – to provide the range of services that are making a difference in our community.

Thanks to Ian Port and Steve Martin for the short film of our August Go Ride event. It was shown at the Audentior Awards, hope you enjoy the film.

Happy Birthday Dennis

Today, 25 Jan 2017, sees one of our stalwarts celebrate a milestone birthday (he’s 80!). Dennis Fitton is one of our ride leaders, a workshop volunteer and keen promoter and supporter of all things Watford Cycle Hub related.

Mad keen on all things cycling, he has been a Spokes member for some 20 years, regularly leading rides, is a National Cycle Group leader for the U3A and is a qualified Ride Leader and Route Planner and an active participant in our Ride Social Programme.

Having been a passionate cyclist for most of his life Dennis asked if he could pop in regularly to do some volunteering … “fettling” with (helping to recondition) bikes in return for being around the chaps to learn more about ‘modern’ bikes!

Of course his talents don’t just stop there; after his last excursion into the Cycle Hub, an annoying catch on the door now closes with ease!

80 years young!  Congrats & hats off you Dennis!  Many Happy Returns!

Kate was also 3rd in the Female Community Coach of the Year award and whilst John and Sam didn’t make the top three in their volunteer categories we think they and all our volunteers are very special.
We’d like to say a ‘big thank you’ to all the team, past and present, who have helped make Watford Cycle Hub what it is today and to our customers and supporters. We couldn’t do it without you so we look forward to seeing you again soon.
